Dick Wood’s Trophy Challenge: cricket this Sunday

This Sunday at the Gymkhana Club there will be the annual Dick Wood’s Trophy Challenge

Dick Wood died in December 2002 and is buried at the Foreign Cemetery, literally a stone’s throw from his beloved Chiengmai Gymkhana Club where he spent so many happy mornings…nursing his beers.

Dick Wood’s father founded the Chiengmai Gymkhana Club in 1898, and bar a few short years during the wars, father and son were members of the club until Dick’s death – a whopping 104 years!

Each Chiang Mai Cricket Sixes, an international cricket tournament held in March or April annually, Dick would sit at the Dick Wood tent – Wood’s View – holding court with whoever wished to listen to his incredible stories as a teak wallah in Northern Thailand.

The Dick Wood Trophy Challenge is an annual one day cricket match between the Chiengmai Gymkhana Club and the Bangkok British Club.

Come enjoy this challenge which has been ongoing – bar 2020 – since 1982 this Sunday. The match will begin at 11am and there will be a bar and food available. This should be a really fun day out for all.
