Gioia Italian Restaurant looks like a fairy tale destination, its glass-encased venue sparkling amidst a canopy of large trees. Gioia sits in North Hill City Resort in Koolpant Ville 9 housing estate, its Executive Chef bringing the best of Italy while highlighting the freshest of local produce with a menu which covers classical Italian favourites as well as more exotic signature regional fare.
Serving up classic Italian dishes, designed with a bit of extra flavour to suit Thai palates, Gioia Restaurant serves up a fun and fabulous dining experience, perfect for a gathering of family and friends.
Gioia means joy in Italy, and Gioia Restaurant wants diners to thoroughly enjoy their dining experience, so start your feast by ordering your mix and match bespoke pasta. Choose penne, spaghetti, pappardelle, fettuccini or angel hair pasta before selecting any of the home made sauces to create your own preferred pasta dish.
The grilled baby octopus is highly recommended, arriving tender and fresh, with the perfect crunch while steeped and marinated in aromatic herbs. Served with steamed potatoes, asparagus, tomatoes and salad, this is a great little savoury bite before the classic Caesar salad, which arrives fresh, crispy and slathered in delicious dressing, showing off all of the wonderful fresh produce found in the hills surrounding Chiang Mai.
Another delightful dish is the truffle soup which uses truffle paste, topped with airy foam and served with a dripping of truffle oil and freshly baked baguette, perfect for a rainy day.
The restaurant’ highlight dish is the Wellington pie, a dish you would struggle to find anywhere in Chiang Mai. The classic Wellington is reimagined and Thai ingredients are used to highlight the three types of proteins served: beef, using only premium grade beef, wrapped in Serrano ham and packed with truffle paste; the pork Wellington serving pork neck in a umami-rich chorizo crumble, and the salmon Wellington where the delicate salmon is wrapped in cheesy spinach. All Wellingtons are then wrapped in black rice puff pastry, making for a memorable dish unlike any other.
Each dish arrives with four sides – Irish champ mashed potatoes with Japanese shallots, honey glazed carrots and French beans; chakalaka cabbage stew in South African tomato gravy; and a medley of greens with a serving of broad beans, green beans, edamame and asparagus infused in lemon. The dish is then served with a ginger mustard and spicy barbecue sauces.
There are plenty other delicious dishes on the menu to suite all palates from their pizzas to risottos, steak dishes to desserts. Explore the wonderful regional dishes of Italy where the heroes are our very own local produce in a wonderful fairy tale setting just a few minutes drive out of the city centre.
