Two high school dormitories built by Japanese government in Mae Sarieng

The Government of Japan has provided financial support for the construction of new student dormitories at “Boripat Suksa” School in Mae Hong Son Province’s Mae Sariang District. The assistance is part of Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (Kusanone Programme). The grant agreement was signed on 6th October 2025, between Harada Masaru, Consul-General of Japan in Chiang Mai, and Bamrungsak Burasit, the school’s director, at the Consulate-General of Japan in Chiang Mai.

Mae Sariang “Boripat Suksa” School is a large secondary school with about 2,000 students, many from remote areas. Around 180 students live in school dormitories so they can attend classes beyond lower secondary level. One existing dormitory, converted from two old teacher houses built over 30 years ago, has deteriorated badly, posing hygiene and safety concerns such as roof leaks, old wiring, and inadequate separation between male and female areas.

To address these issues, Japan is funding the construction of two new two-storey dormitories—one for male and one for female students—with a total grant of 8,204,700 baht. The new facilities will replace the unsafe old building and accommodate up to 64 students, offering a clean, safe, and supportive living environment. This project aims to expand educational opportunities for students from disadvantaged and remote communities.

Japan continues to support regional economic and social development through the KUSANONE Programme. Applications for the 2026 fiscal year are now open until mid February.
