Pai is more well known for its laid back hippie vibe, than a Muslim-friendly travel destination. But all of that is set to change as the Director of Chiang Mai’s Ministry of Sports and Tourism recently visited Pai with a media team, to officially declare Pai on the Muslim tourism route.
Citing Pai’s ‘Soft Power’ the director first took media to Ta Pai Memorial Bridge to see the near century-old attraction, built during the Second World War, before stopping off for a photo op along the banks of the river Pai.
The group then visited Santhichol Village, a Yunnanese village in the mountains just outside Pai town where a spectacular viewpoint offers sweeping views of the Pai scenery.
The group then visited Al Israa Masjid Mosque, a place of worship for up to 300 people, which is open for a variety f religious events before heading for a lunch of Pai khao soy.
This media trip was designed to highlight how Muslim-friendly travel to Pai can be, featuring halal food and other attractions.
