The Tourism Authority of Thailand has long recognised that Chiang Mai has become a well-known centre for wellness amongst not just Thai, but international residents and visitors. There are a great number of spas across Chiang Mai, there are also non-traditional healing centres, wellness centres, specialised alternative medicine clinics and importantly there is a wealth of residents who live and work here, renowned for their expertise and interests in the healing arts.
For those of us who live here, we again have an opportunity to indulge ourselves in expanding our knowledge and our wellbeing by joining in the two-day festival which will be held in the lush green space that is Lanna Devalai.
The festival will be set on the expansive and exquisitely designed grounds of Lanna Devalai, a purpose-built centre of meditation and wellness which incorporates a library and many spaces designed to soothe the soul and help those seeking something just beyond their grasp.
Within the two-day festival you will be able to join in a number of art therapy and healing workshop activities. This will include a workshop on crystal healing, an alternative therapy that utilises crystals and gemstones to promote healing and wellbeing. It is believed that crystals interact with the energy fields of the body and can help to create physical, emotional and spiritual balance. This ancient tradition will be introduced to those interested at the workshop.
There will also be a singing bowl healing workshop, otherwise known as sound therapy, an ancient Tibetan and Buddhist form of healing and relaxation where the soothing vibrations from the bowls come together with peaceful meditation to offer a deep sense of tranquillity and relaxation and even promises the ability to shift you to a higher consciousness.
Numerous activities will be available, designed to help detox emotions and dissolve negativity. Porjai Arts Studio will be putting on some children’s art therapy workshops such as showcasing how to make honey, lime and turmeric teas, how to make herbal vapours and more. The Orn Tai community will be offering foot-massages and herbal compresses and more.
A number of hand selected and curated businesses in the wellness industry have been invited to open booths to feature their products and services including spas, resorts, restaurants as well as representatives from a variety of communities which have deep rooted traditions in healing and wellbeing.
