Most Chiang Mai vegetarians probably know of or frequent these favourite veggie-loving restaurants, but we’re here to give them some love, and point you towards four of the best vegetarian restaurants in Chiang Mai. Here they are!

Delicious dishes at Anchan.

1. Anchan Vegetarian Restaurant

Located on Nimmanhaemin Road, the Soi opposite of Soi 13 on the first floor of a building, Anchan serves vegetarian food like you have not tasted before. As written on the sign at the entrance, “Vegetarian food so delicious you won’t miss the meat”!

It is very well rated on Tripadvisor, and compared to places in the moat where tourists are numerous, the place is very nice and quiet. The staff is very friendly and knows the meaning of customer service.

Prices vary from 90 to 150 baht per dish, but value for money is good. The restaurant used to be open every day, but will close now on Mondays and Sundays, says the owner because of the lack of manpower.

2. Pun Pun Vegetarian & Organic Restaurant

Pun Pun is located right behind Wat Suan Dok Temple, close to Suthep Road.

Pun Pun offers great salads with fried flowers (see picture) as well as noodle dishes and curries, which all have a Thai-Burmese fusion flavour packed with fragrant sauces and rare ingredients.

The restaurant itself is very nice and simple, located behind the temple so you can observe the monks in their daily routine while having your meal. Their ideology is to support local organic farmers and educate people on what is organic food and why it is better.

Pun Pun is the cheapest restaurant of this list, with prices varying from 40 to 90 baht per dish.

Khun Churn Restaurant has just recently changed their location from Nimman to the Old Chiang Mai Cultural Center on Wualai Road, which is still very easy to find when you drive by.

For only 179 baht, you have it all from deep fried vegetables to make-your-own khao soy (in the picture below) through to salads and mixed vegetable dishes. Although the buffet is different every day, the dishes mentioned above are always there. 4. AUM Vegetarian Restaurant

AUM can be a bit difficult to find, but it’s definitely worth looking for. It’s located right next to Black Canyon Coffee and opposite Thapae Gate. You can easily walk by without ever noticing it so keep your eyes open!

AUM typically serves any Thai food you can find on the street, but without meat. Curries, spring rolls, dumplings, khao soy – it has all you could look for. The prices of these dishes vary from 60 to 100 baht. It also has a choice of vegetarian sushi, at a price slightly higher than the other dishes, from 120 to 195 baht.

The atmosphere of the restaurant is what makes you go back for. It a very relaxing place with a small lounge-garden-library on the first floor, although it can be a bit noisy because of the traffic. Beware; this place is completely packed during lunch time, so you might want to drop by a bit after rush hour, since the restaurant is open all day anyway.
