Pickles, berries, seafood, prime meats and healthy seasonally-sourced produce cooked with simple sophistication are all hallmarks of this cuisine which still uses cooking methods dating back to the Vikings.
Chiang Mai’s Norden Restaurant, now in its seventh year, and with a faithful fan following, serves up the best of Swedish cuisine by Chef Philip whose menu of classical as well as unique Swedish dishes is a must-dine destination for all foodies in town.
Whether you are looking for a delicate and polished dish like the Greenland halibut with lemon butter sauce or the carnivorous fillet Rossini served with decadent foie gras, truffles and red wine sauce, Norden’s menu covers the gamut of Swedish highlights and much much more.
Lighter offerings are also available, now that summer is on the way. So for a refreshing plate, try the beef carpaccio roasted pine nut truffle cream which is as good as it sounds or the shrimps with garlic, herbs and olive oil for a bit more of a flavour punch. Another of our favourite dishes is the pan-seared US scallops with truffle cauliflower puree.
The restaurant has an authentic Nordic feel to it, from its simple modern and stylish décor to charming details such as the faux-fur footstools to put your handbags on. Run by a lovely Thai-Swedish couple, Norden is just about as solid a restaurant as they come with a rare consistency in food quality and service. While the regular menu is constant, Chef Philip is constantly conjuring up some promotion or another to keep things fresh, regulars returning and prices moderate.
