Afternoon teas have been de rigueur here in Chiang Mai for many years, with each restaurant or hotel one upping each other to offer the most mouthwatering, delicious and tempting array of sweet and savoury delights to be washed down by a cooling pot of hot tea.

Never one to be outshone, the Four Seasons Resort Chiang Mai has created a new afternoon tea offering which should delight tea aficionados and attract any tea neophyte out there.

No memorable afternoon tea is possible without spectacular presentation, and the Four Seasons has come up with its own Thai twist to the traditional tea tier trays – the Thai pantry.

Gaze at the vibrant green paddy fields and looming mountains beyond, sip any of the aromatic and delicious teas on offer, and take your pick from a generous array of tea time treats. The Four Seasons tea experience starts off with both savoury and sweet delights served out of a colourful traditional Thai pantry.

Chef Yanisa ‘Khwan’ Wiangnon uses only the best and freshest of locally grown and sourced produce to bake and make fresh offerings daily. All you have to do is open your pantry door and pick your treat.

As we are in strawberry season, strawberries picked fresh from neighbouring farms are elevated to an art form with the strawberry tart which comes with rich chocolate and crunchy pistachio or the delightful strawberry crumble with almonds. Other favourites are the panna cotta – tender like velvet and served with more fresh strawberries and choux cream.

No tea is complete without a traditional scone. Ignoring the buffalos wandering the fields below you may be mistaken for thinking you are sitting in a charming cottage in Devon enjoying naughtily rich cream-lathered freshly baked scones with dollops of sweet and sour strawberry jam

For more savoury treats try the savoury croissants as well as any number of other bites on offer.

This indulgent and very satisfying Afternoon Tea costs 1,770++ for two people.
