The Spanish hotel chain Melia, with over 100 branches across Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas, has opened in Chiang Mai, where the old Pornping Hotel stood for many decades.

Having undergone complete renovations over the past few years, Melia hopes to revitalise the beleaguered Charoenprathet Road area of the Night Bazaar. Spain stars alongside Chiang Mai in this modern hotel which infuses a sense of Spain in its design, food and overall vibes.

The Spanish Afternoon Tea is a first in Chiang Mai and features delightful Spanish treats previously hard to find in our fair city.

Andalusian mini sandwiches with Serrano ham, fried pork loin and blistered green pepper are served with mouthwatering golden fried potato-sausage balls with light aioli and brava sauce.

The pinchos style pan-seared spiced tiger prawn skewer with lemon are a light bite next to the richness of the pork-fat infused Mallorcan mini ensaimada pastry. Once the savoury dishes have been, savoured, it is time to indulge in the sweets.

Try the classic Basque-style burnt cheesecake which simply melts in the mouth, the delicious churros with warm chocolate dripping and end it all with a refreshing sangria ice popsicle. Certainly a unique tea offering!

The Spanish Afternoon Tea Set costs 1,059++ for two persons and is served between 2pm and 5pm daily at Ruen Kaew Lounge.
