Tucked away in Saraphi on a sprawling three-rai plot, Steaké Steak Salad is the kind of place that makes you forget you ever had a to-do list. Light mist drifts along stone pathways, moss-covered boulders of every size crowd the grounds, and the trickle of streams and light gush of small waterfalls provides a soundtrack so soothing you’ll find yourself slowing down before you’ve even ordered. It is, in short, a lovely oasis — one that happens to also serve excellent food.

Open from morning to evening, the restaurant has spent more than ten years quietly perfecting both its setting and its menu, drawing on the owner’s own recipes and techniques to produce a spread that comfortably straddles Thai and Western territory. Appetisers, steaks, spaghetti, salads, homemade baked goods — it’s all here, and it’s all made with care.

Grilled chicken with som tam is a winning combination— juicy, tender bird alongside crisp papaya salad alive with sour, sweet, spicy and salty notes, rounded off with a bold jaew dipping sauce.

Equally worth your attention is the spaghetti with basil pesto, where glossy, fragrant Western basil sauce coats the pasta beautifully, topped with grilled chicken for a dish that’s as satisfying as it is aromatic.

But it’s the BBQ pork rib steak that deserves a permanent spot at the centre of every table. Slow-cooked until the meat surrenders entirely to the fork and draped in rich barbecue sauce, it is the sort of dish you’ll be thinking about on the drive home. For those who prefer a Thai-style punch, the grilled pork ribs with jaew dipping sauce — spice-marinated, oven-hot, served with fresh vegetables and bread — is an equally compelling argument.

Thai classics are well represented too, with green curry, pad Thai, stir-fried holy basil, Isaan-style larb, sun-dried pork and crispy fried som tam all making appearances on the menu. Lighter appetites might head towards the dory fish steak, while the drinks list offers kale smoothies, banana smoothies and the vivid Red Reggae — a striking glass of pineapple, carrot and beetroot that’s as photogenic as it is refreshing.

There’s also a private room for up to 20 guests — ideal for meetings, celebrations or a karaoke evening — available at 1,000 baht per day, as well as six badminton courts open to the public. Come for a game, stay for the ribs. There are worse ways to spend a day.
