On the 14th of March, Lumi Restaurant is hosting a four-hands dinner bringing together two chefs whose work is well worth paying attention to.
The guest arriving at Lumi’s kitchen that evening is Chef Tim Butler, an Australian-born talent who has spent the better part of two decades cooking in Bangkok. His famous restaurant, Eat Me, has earned a place at number 25 on Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list and a Michelin Plate. Butler’s cooking draws on classical technique, careful sourcing, and a lightness of touch that lets ingredients speak for themselves.
He will be joining hands with Lumi’s own Chef Prince, whose restaurant recently took home a TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Best of the Best award for 2025. Those who eat at Lumi regularly will tell you the accolade is well earned. The cooking here is technically grounded without ever feeling showy, and there is often a subtle creative flourish which makes the tastes as well as the memories linger.
Together, the two have put together a six-course menu that draws on both Thai heritage and broader global influences without leaning too heavily on either.
The evening opens with Hua Hin Oscietra caviar paired with namprik, betel leaf, and crispy pork crackling — a bold, textured opening that sets the tone early. From there, a chilled Chiang Mai heirloom tomato gazpacho with seared scallop and ikura leads into grilled blue river prawn ravioli in shellfish emulsion with makrut lime. The fish course brings charred snow fish wrapped in banana leaf with turmeric and lemongrass, followed by red curry glazed short rib with local smoked bone marrow. Dessert is Chiang Mai strawberry with smoked ice cream, black peppercorn, and burrata.
It is a menu with a unique point of view and one that should make for an interesting evening.
At 3,000++ baht per person, numbers are kept intentionally small, so early reservations are advised.
