Chiang Mai Cobras Rugby Club Begins Rugby Coaching Initiative

In conjunction with the Thai Rugby Union, the recently formed Cobras Rugby Club will run both a level 1 Strength & Conditioning & the entry level 1 Rugby Coaching courses, over the weekend of 16-17 October 2021. The Ambassador Billingual Academy have come on board as a partner and host venue for the weekend with the CrossFit Chiang Mai gym, the venue for the Strength & Conditioning course.

The idea is to give prospective coaches the opportunity to get continuing World Rugby accredited education and certification, from the basics of coaching, through to professional standard.

The Cobras are looking at doing courses every 3 months or so which will hopefully filter down into the youth system, where coaches can practice their acquired skills and help develop, the next generation of players. The next courses will be the level 2 Rugby Coaching Course and possibly the level 1 Refereeing Course.

Fifteen or so years ago Chiang Mai was the powerhouse of Thai rugby and the main feeder for the Thai national side and it is hoped that those glory days can return with programs such as these.

The courses will be run by World Rugby Educators, Michael McFarlane and Attapol Suta, under the supervision of the Thai Rugby Union and World Rugby.

Each course last for a full day and the courses are open to all.
