Wisut Buachum, Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Chiang Rai Office—responsible for promoting tourism marketing and public relations in Chiang Rai and Phayao provinces—revealed that the rainy season, also known as the Green Season, is one of the most beautiful times to visit these two northern gems. Chiang Rai and Phayao offer lush natural landscapes, verdant rice fields, and tranquil mountain scenery. The peaceful atmosphere, refreshing weather, and cool breezes create an enchanting experience that draws visitors seeking relaxation and joy. During this season, visitors can witness stunning sunrises amidst seas of mist following the rains, showcasing the unmatched beauty of these destinations.
In addition to breathtaking nature, both provinces boast a wide range of attractions, from cultural and artistic landmarks to creative tourism activities. Visitors can immerse themselves in local traditions, enjoy morning tea or coffee surrounded by greenery, engage in community-based tourism, experience traditional Thai massage and spa treatments, and savour authentic northern cuisine that reflects the unique identity of each area and community.
To boost local tourism, encourage longer stays and increase spending in Chiang Rai and Phayao, in order to align with the government’s “Travel 365 Days” policy, the northern region has launched a campaign titled “Northern Green: Discover Happiness During the Rainy Season” to promote tourism across all 17 northern provinces. In support of this initiative, the TAT Chiang Rai Office has partnered with private sector stakeholders and tourism operators in both provinces to officially launch the Green Season under two regional campaigns:
“Amazing Chiang Rai in Green Season”
“Instant Happiness in Beautiful Phayao – In Green Season”
These campaigns will run from June to August 2025.
Visitors can enjoy immediate happiness by exploring nine of the province’s top destinations:
