Come for The Moment, stay for awhile

Over the past couple of years many areas around Tha Pae Gate have enjoyed a renaissance; Chang Moi is now hip, the Sunday walking street has transformed the cobbled old Ratchadamnoen Road and Tha Pae Road’s classic old shophouses have been reimagined and redesigned into a burgeoning scene brimming with artsy hotels, chic cafes and charming shops.

Smack bang in the middle of all this, within five minutes’ walk from each of these locations, is The Moment, a contemporary and sophisticated three suite city hotel designed to delight.

Walk into the cool interior of The Moment and bask in the kaleidoscopic light which beams through its wall of traditional Chiang Mai bricks and coloured glass, designed in a modern representation of so many of our city’s ancient temples. Mirrors, coloured glass and bricks of old blend with sexy marble, shiny brass and supple leather into an elegant modern design which pays full attention to each and every little detail.

The suites are so large they could be apartments, and are each designed to represent the seasons in Chiang Mai: Winter, Summer and Monsoon. The cool blues of the two-bedroom and two-bathroom family Winter Suite comprises a double bed room and a twin bed room along with large bathrooms and an adorable reading nook by the window. The two-storey, two-bedroom Summer Suite – each room with double bed and a bathroom – are so spacious as to include an elegant working desk, a fern-dripping glass encased sexy bathtub, a massive rain shower, two bathrooms, and a number of reading nooks and corners to cosy up in. While the Summer Suite boasts all the colours seen on temple murals across the old city in its brick and coloured-glassed wall, the overall mood and tone is subdued and calming, perfect for a city escape. And then there is the plush two-person Monsoon Suite, with its very opulent bath tub and rain shower which oozes the lushness of the green season and comes with a charming little balcony overlooking the road which must be the perfect spot to take in some of the city’s best festivals, from Loy Krathong to Songkran.

It is all about the details here, all of which add to the overall focus on comfort. Plush beds, sofas to sink into, generously filled mini bars, fresh welcome fruits and drink, quality amenities and personalised service. Breakfast can be pre ordered, parking can be pre arranged, concierge and other services can also be requested, but on the most part the staff are discreetly available.

Next door to The Moment is Moment & Wine, a charming little wine bar attached to the hotel selling both old and new world wines, along with cocktails, spirits and beers, at prices from the giddying to the easily affordable. Suede sofas, wine cabinets encased in shiny glass and mirror and the perfect mood lighting and curated music makes this spot a popular hang out for many of the city’s wine aficionados as well as lucky tourists who wander by. On Sundays a trio plays classical music on the pavement outside, drawing regular crowds and encouraging neighbouring businesses to also open their doors and join the party!

If you want to explore Chiang Mai from the centre out, then you can’t start any more central than The Moment. Dozens of ancient temples, adorable cafes, delicious restaurants, fun pubs, arts, crafts and design shops and studios are within short walking distance. In fact, there really isn’t need for a car as there is just too much to do around the hotel. The Ping River is just up the road; the moat down the road and Warorot Market as well as the Night Bazaar are both within shouting distance. When The Moment is over, the airport is less than ten minutes drive.

The Moment is perfect for large families or groups of friends looking for a place to really call home in the very heart of the ancient city of Chiang Mai.

Stay for The Moment, or two…or three.
