May 8, 2012

CityNews – Boonsong Teriyapirom, the Minister of Commerce, was in town lately checking prices at local markets after complaints from the northern region about rising prices.

The minister checked the prices of vegetables, meats and other goods at Ruamchok Market, to see if they adhered to the government’s price control policy implemented by Yingluck Shinawatra, the Prime Minister.

Boonsong told the press that most of the goods he saw were in line with the policy. He added that prices were similar to Bangkok, though the price of pork seemed quite high.He explained that the price of many retail goods was not so high that it could be said to be taking advantage of consumers.

The Ministry of Commerce said it will launch measures to solve the problem of rising prices and if sellers are seen to be taking advantage of consumers they will be made accountable. The Ministry of Commerce also ordered the provincial commercial office and provincial traders to closely follow the problem and send regular reports to the Ministry of Commerce.
