U.S. Consul General says No Need to Panic
CityNews – On 19th September, the U.S. Consul General Christie Kenny visited Chiang Mai to open a seminar titled ‘U.S. President Election: Impact Thailand’ at PSD1101, 1st floor, Political Sciences Department, Chiang Mai University.
After protests were held in Bangkok, and later Chiang Mai Kristie talked about the recent situation concerning the furor surrounding the video ‘Innocence of Muslims’. She explained that in Thailand Muslim people and the USA had a good relationship. The USA, she said, embraced religious tolerance. There are two million Buddhists, and 10 million Muslim people in the US she said.
“We hope we respect freedom of expression. We believe that people have the right to choose their own religion, but people have to respect other religions, too.” said Kristie.
