CityNews – Chiang Mai Provincial Office arranged a meeting on the evaluation of the solution concerning the burning problem at Chiang Mai Hill Hotel on 11th September.
Guest speaker at Chiang Mai Hill Hotel
Chuchart Keelapang, the deputy governor of Chiang Mai, presided over the meeting. He explained that the project called the ‘Control and Solution of Smog and Burning 2011’, would be made up of responsible organisations, local administrative offices, and concerned people throughout 25 districts of Chiang Mai. Each will work on lessening smog and burning prevention.
Research presentations titled ‘Smog Problems: The Empirical Data and The Sustainable Solution’ will be given by researchers from Chiang Mai University. This research will discuss how the burning problem comes from mostly agricultural preparation, and that it is difficult to stop as burning is cost effective in the short-term. Using organic fertiliser is still a complicated progress for farmers, although changing the behavior of these farmers is paramount, says the research. Local administrative offices must find ways to progress and campaign concerning the problem of burning. One action that will be taken is give prizes to 25 communities that meet the ‘Green Community’ requirements.
