CityNews – On 16th August, 10 a.m., Chumpol Silapa-archa, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Sports and Tourism with his elder brother, Banharn Silapa-archa, the PM, visited the construction site of the International Convention Centre on the Irrigation Canal Road. The massive project, 335 rai, will cost over 3,000 million baht.

Banharn Silapa-archa said he’d visited the site 17 times and had found numerous problems concerning the Department of Highways, Provincial Waterworks Authority, Royal Irrigation Department and Provincial Electricity Authority, and this is why construction has been slow.
The main large buildings might be finished in September or the middle of October, though right now the convention centre doesn’t have an administrative office, a dormitory for workers, a proper waste disposal place, an equipment building, nor has there been much landscape development.
The convention centre just received a budget for 190 million baht to build more offices. However, the budget must be approved by the council. If approved construction will start again in October or November, 2012 and will finish March or April 2013.
