Say Bye-Bye to Lin Ping
CityNews – Pimook Simaroj, the administrator of Chiang Mai zoo, held a conference to say that there will be a countdown party at the zoo to celebrate baby panda Lin Ping’s 3rd birthday.
He also announced that due to contractual obligations the cuddly panda will unfortunately be leaving Chiang Mai in 2013 and heading back to China. There will be all kinds of activities going on at the zoo during this day, including a large canvas for Lin Ping lovers to write and express their feelings about the furry panda’s departure. If inclined to do so you might also send a greeting card to Lin Ping, take part in a photo shoot, and join a Lin Ping painting competition. There will also be other competitions and a chance to win a trip to China.
“The panda breeding centre will be continued because we hope in the future to have further success inseminating the pandas. Over the last three years China has seen that Thailand has been taking good care of our pandas, giving them a special kind of love and treating them not just like wild animals, this is a different approach from other countries. However, we cannot change the contract,” Pimook said.
The first contract that was made in 2003 stated that China had to send Thailand two pandas, these were Chuang Chuang and Lin Hui. Thailand had 10 years on the contract to study and breed pandas. If the breeding was successful, then Thailand was contracted to then send the baby back when is was two years old.
