April 23, 2012

CityNews – Prawin Pattanapong, the Director of Region Three Public Relations Department, told the press that the April 21st conference was part of an ongoing project to educate government officers about ASEAN. Teerapong Sodasri, General Director of the Public Relations Department, moderated the conference and gave a speech about the importance of “public relations and ASEAN” and “the operating of the ASEAN public relations centre”.

ASEAN was first founded as a community on 8th August 1967 by the countries of Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand. Its objective was and is to offer support to each member in the areas of economy, social and cultural issues, technological science, and also emphasise solidarity between each member country. Later members of ASEAN are Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam. There are 10 members in the community up to date.

The Thai government realises the importance of the public relations department and so it has been made the national ASEAN commission. The general director of the public relations department has been made the head of national ASEAN public relations subcommittee. The government and private sectors also attended the conference where public relations policy was discussed. Public relations departments have already been established in all 8 regions of Thailand so that all Thai citizens can understand ASEAN and its objectives.
