Red Shirts Flock to Election Registration

CityNews – Red Shirts came out in their numbers at the 80th Anniversary of His Majesty the King building behind Chiang Mai Provincial Office, Office of the Election Commission of Thailand, in the morning of May 24^th.

It was the day that applications opened for the Chiang Mai Provincial Organisation Council and Chiang Mai Provincial Organisation president. Thousands of Red Shirts came to support the two applicants. Boonlert Buranupakorn, the ex-president of Chiang Mai Provincial Office from the Phue Thai Khunnatham party and Dr. Thaworn Kiatchaiyakorn, the ex-senate from the Phue Thai Chiang Mai party. Over of 90% of the Red Shirt crowd came in support of Boonlert Buranupakorn. 

Payap Shinawatra, former PM Taksin Shinawatra’s brother, told the press that: “In the process of local elections, the Phue Thai Party doesn’t have a candidate. However, if people want to use the name Phue Thai Party, it is an allowance we can make. Both of the candidates said they are the Phue Thai Party, but they are not related to our Party. As I have known Boonlert since we were five years old, I personally support him.”

Boonlert Buranupakor told the press: “I am very confident, and I promise that I will continue with the projects that now have been stopped. I will do my best and even better. Dr. Thaworn is a man I have no conflict with and there will be no problems between us.”

Dr. Thaworn Kiatchaiyakorn said that “I’ve been prepared since October last year and have visited local people in 25 districts since then. I’ve found out that the problem is that some districts just don’t have a budget. I will change that.”

The official election will be on 23rd June 2012.
