Red Shirt Protest Closes Street at Don Jan Intersection; make preparations for potential judicial coup on Friday
CityNews – At 9 a.m. July 12th, Thai red shirt political protestors of the United Front for Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD), along with local citizens, convened at the Don Jan Intersection on the Chiang Mai-Lampang highway to practice closing down the street.

According to rally leaders, the practice is meant to prepare the UDD party in the event of a coup d’état on Friday, following the announcement of the Constitutional Court’s verdict on controversial charter amendments to the Thai constitution. If the Constitutional Court finds the draft amendments unconstitutional, the verdict could lead to the dissolution of the Pheu Thai Party.
Almost 300 people from various organisations attended the practice, as well as 100 songtaews, and 50 tuk-tuks. The participants held a sign saying: “We are against any type of coup d’état,” as well as a sign with a red foot stamped across former Prime Minister Abhisit Vejajiva’s face. The provincial police patrolled the area for safety reasons.
The practice ended at 10:15 a.m., with the red shirts declaring that in the case of any event or protest, they would be ready to convene at the Don Jan intersection.
