Police Region 5 Arrest Man with 30 Ya Ba Tablets and 7 Million Baht in Cash

CityNews – On 2nd September, 12 p.m., Police Region 5 had a press conference after the arrest of Piroj Daungmadee (aged 35, from Bangkok), who was caught in possession of 30 Ya Ba or amphetamine tablets and had 7 million baht in cash in his car.

The police said on 1st September, the police received a call about a suspicious man driving a luxury car, who rented a house in Noppakoa Village in Bangkok. On 1st September the police observed the man from 6 a.m. The suspect left his house in the morning and drove towards Chiang Rai. The police followed him and eventually stopped and searched him, they found him in possession of illegal drugs and 7 million baht in cash. The man confessed that he was hired to drive the car and park it in Chiang Rai. He was told he would be paid 50,000 baht for the job.

Police Lieutenant General Suthep Detraksa said since the beginning of the year, Police Region 5 have been strict on drugs prevention in accordance with government policy. It has been noticed the street price of Ya Ba has increased from 200 – 250 baht a pill to 300 – 400 baht a pill. Although police have arrested many drug dealers, they are all mainly small dealers or transporters, as of yet few drug gang leaders have been arrested. From now on police in police stations in the 8 upper north provinces have been put on high alert to find, arrest and seize the property of key players in drug dealing circuits.
