Observatory Opening up the Skies
CityNews – National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand Deputy Director Dr. Saran Posayajinda Deputy has announced three activities this coming winter to attract interest in astronomy, all on the occasion of the 7th cycle of HM the King’s birthday.
The first activity will be ‘Youth Camp Star Gazers and Cultural Exchange’ where students are invited to the observatory on Doi Inthanon to gaze at the night sky. Students will be coming from all over the country to join in activities, exchange knowledge and culture. The second activity is to train teachers on astronomy knowledge where three levels of teachers will be invited to learn and share so that they can take newfound knowledge back into their classrooms to energize and excite their charges. The final activity is the ‘Open Skies…Chasing Stars’ activity for the general public. Again, the public will be invited up to the Doi Inthanon observatory in January, which is expected to be a month with a great number of shooting stars.
The new observatory will be officially opened by Princess Sirinthorn in January and hopes to be a great attraction and educational centre. For more information please visit www.narit.or.th.
