New Health Foundation Set-Up to Help Ageing Japanese
CityNews – Chiang Mai has a growing number of Japanese people living here, many of whom are retired and may require some assistance in old age. For this reason a health foundation has been set-up to help them.
On 13th September, at Chiang Mai Orchid Hotel, the Healthy Welfare Club (Fukushikai), along with Chiang Mai Japanese Club, Japan – Thai Association of Second Life Health Support, Chiang Mai Chamber of Commerce, and the Chiang Mai Tourism Association established a foundation called ‘Thai – Japan Health Support Foundation JT/ASH.’ The event was opened by Katsuo Shibata, the Japan Consul General.
Toshio Higushi, the president of the foundation, said that the foundation will develop ways to help Japanese people who live in Thailand long term, especially Japanese people who are aged between 60 – 70 years old. He said that many people come here healthy, but in 10-20 years health can fail them. Many senior Japanese people want to live here until the end of their life, he added.
Anupong Tungwongsakul, a consultant of the foundation, said this establishment is supported by Japanese people who live in Thailand as well as the associations and clubs.
