Narcotic Office Reveals Progress and Massive Haul of Seized Assets

CityNews – The Director of Region Five Narcotics Office, Wichai Chaimongkol, revealed that since Yingluck’s government has been in power the drug problem in the north has improved. When Yingluck became Prime Minister on 8^th August 2011, she revealed that her goal was to reduce the drug problem. Police have since then opened 2,499 drug cases and seized 943 million baht worth of property.

In the northern area alone, eight provinces have been involved with 800 drug cases and 110 million baht’s worth of property has been seized. The seized assets include land, electronic devices, furniture, gold, real estate, and vehicles. Wichai explained that much of the seized assets belong to fugitives but if the fugitives remain at large then the the assets will become the property of the Narcotics Office Fund by law.
