Lovelorn Burmese Woman Jumps Off Iron Bridge
CityNews – On 6th October 2012, police were called to the Iron Bridge near The River Market restaurant and Diamond Hotel for an apparent suicide. Upon arrival, the area was crowded with bystanders and the police were told that a Burmese vendor working in the Night Bazarre, named ‘Cat’ had jumped off the bridge.
Cat’s friend ‘Sali’ also Burmese, 21, said that Cat had called her earlier crying hysterically because she was worried about love problems with a man. She had threatened to kill herself by jumping into the Ping River. She had also asked Sali to say good bye to all her friends in Burma. By the time police and rescue team had arrived at the bridge, they were told that a young lady had indeed jumped off the bridge. After half an hour’s search, the rescue team called off the search as they said that the water was too swift and that they presumed that she had died. By yesterday, 8th October, she had yet to resurface.
