Governor Asks All Chiang Mai Residents to Mourn and Dress for a Funeral

CityNews – The governor of Chiang Mai is asking Chiang Mai for cooperation from all residents of Chiang Mai to attend the mourning ceremony of Princess Bejaratana Rajasuda  at Wat Suan Dok on the 9th of April, 2012.


Cremation ceremonies will be held nationwide on the 9th of April, 2012. The governor asks that everyone in the city wears mourning clothes (black) from April 8th to April 10th.

Princess Bejaratana Rajasuda Sirisobhabannavadi was the only child of King Vajiravudh of Thailand.

She was educated at Rajini School until she was 12. After that she moved to England to study and also to receive medical care due to her poor health. She lived abroad for over 20 years. 

After her death on 27th July 2011 at the age of 85 years old, King Bhumibol Adulyadej ordered that she be given the highest form of funeral a royal can have. Her body was then sent to the Dusit Royal Grand Palace for 100 days.

The cremation will be on 9th April at Sanam Luang, Bangkok. For those who would like to follow the cremation they can watch it on TV live at 6.45 a.m. and 4.15  p.m.
