Gambling Graduate Caught with Stolen Bikes

CityNews – Chiang Mai Police captured an unemployed male graduate for stealing bicycles and motorcycles on April 27th. Col. Aksorn Wongyai, Superintendent of Chiang Mai Police Station, along with Car Loss Prevention officers, brought in a 31 year-old Chakri Tasujai, from Baan Hong, Lamphun.

Police informed the press that Chakri had been prolific and in April alone he had taken stole 6 motorcycles from around the Lamphun and Chiang Mai areas. Although police reported that they had had an eye on  him for some time and finally had their chance to arrest him at a PTT petrol station at Wiang Yong, Muang, Lamphun.

Before his capture, on April 24, a 30 year-old Varunee Lerdwichaikul, a teacher at Prince Royals College, had reported her Brown Yamaha Fino motorcycle missing after having parked it without removing the key in front of Yupparaj College at around 6 p.m. On April 25th, the police were informed that there was a man trying to sell a motorcycle that went by that same description at a petrol station in Lamphun, so they hurried to the scene and found Chakri with the missing motorcycle. The accused confessed to have stolen the motorcycle and so he was charged and brought back to Chiang Mai for prosecution.

The accused graduated from a well known university in Chiang Mai, though told police that he  was currently unemployed, addicted to online gambling and had debt problems. He told police that he did all his stealing on his own and only began in April. He also stole bicycles, mostly from school areas, and then sold them to second-hand shops in Amphoe Muang, Saraphee and Lamphun for 160-1,000 baht.
