Free Dentistry! in Chiang Mai on 19th October
CityNews – The Chiang Mai Public Health Office along with other related dentist offices in Chiang Mai will host a free of charge dentistry service for ‘National Dentist Day’ on 18th – 19th October at local district hospitals and the Faculty of Dentistry (opposite Wat Suan Dok), Chiang Mai University.
Doctor Surasingh Wisarutrat explained that 21st October was the day that the government made National Dentist Day. This year is the 23rd year of Dentist Day.
This day is an initiative to support the poor and give them medical support, though anyone can claim free dental care on this day. Statistics on dentistry in Chiang Mai, 2012, show that 15% of 1½ year old children, and 50.3% of three year old children suffer from decayed teeth. 29.2% of 12 year old children suffer from gum disease. It also shows that only 22.5% of 1½ year old children brush their teeth before going to bed, while 12 year old children drink sweet drinks 1.3 days per week.
