Fighting Animal Extinction

CityNews –  On 18th – 19th July, The Zoological Organisation is holding a seminar called ‘Fighting Extinction’, at the Imperial Grand Hall, Imperial Maeping Chiang Mai Hotel.

M.L. Panadda Dissakul, the Chiang Mai Governor, will be the president of the opening. Attending the seminar will be representatives from the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, Office of National Research Council of Thailand, lecturers from the Faculty of Medicine, CMU, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Chulalongkorn University, Kasetsart University and Mahidol University and private zoos in Thailand who will give speeches.  

Vet. Wisit Wichasin, the deputy director of The Zoological Organisation told the press that the seminar is to develop the zoological research to the level of international standards.

The seminar will also facilitate the exchanging of knowledge in conservation between external and internal organisations. The Zoological Organisation has been doing research to develop natural resources in Thailand and has been successful, particularly in propagating wildlife species such as cranes and the Burmese antelope. 

He also stated that before the opening of the ASEAN Community in 2015, all zoos in Thailand will be prepared for any outbreaks of infections such as Bird Flu or SARS. The Zoological Organisation has also been teaching employees English as well as providing an information centre in English.
