Faculty of Medicine Host the 8th Medical Book Day

October 1, 2012

CityNews – Chiang Mai University’s Faculty of Medicine is set to host its ‘8th Medical Book Day’ at Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital (near the parking area) from 8th – 12th October.

As well as its aim to persuade people to read more, the fair will also to be a channel for students, teachers, officers and other people in Chiang Mai to purchase books, textbooks, educational stationary, and more. Computer devices and IT products will also be available.

The Bangkok Post published an article on February 2, 2011 citing the reading rate surveys of the Publishers and Booksellers Association of Thailand (PUBAT).  The 2010 survey showed that Thais on average read just five books a year compared with Malaysians who read on average 40 books a year, Singaporeans 45 books a year, and Japanese 50 books a year.  The previous survey conducted in 2005 suggested Thais read only two books on average every year.

The first day will begin at 9 a.m. with a talk from Associate Professor Dr Niwet Nantajit, Dean of the University’s Faculty of Medicine. Professors will be delivering speeches discussing IT and medical matters such as ‘Research Misconduct’ on 9th October and ‘Medical e-Books’ on 10th October, along with other similar lectures taking place on 11th October.
