EU Sponsored Environmental project in Chiang Mai

CityNews – On Tuesday 5th June, at 9 a.m. Chuchart Keelapang, the deputy governor of Chiang Mai presided over the opening on Environment Day at JJ Market, held by the Environment Office Region 1 (Chiang Mai).

The event project was entitled ‘Holistic Approach of Public Partnership for Environment (HAPPEN)’ which is sponsored by the European Union through the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

The project will last four years (2012 – 2018) and will focus on five districts including Muang Chiang Mai, Hangdong, Mae Rim, Sansai and Doi Saket. The project will involve administrative offices, people’s networks, private organisations, NGOs, students and local people, all of which will help manage the environment and natural resources efficiently in the area.

The event schedule was as follows:

10.00-10.30 am Launching of the Holistic Approach of Public Partnership for 

Environment (HAPPEN) Project: symbolic project flags given to 

leading communities of Don Keaw, San Pranate and Mae-Sa-Mai

10.30-12.00 am Stage Talk on “Smog Reduction – Life & Societal Resource 

Conservation – through Holistic Approach” facilitated by Kunakorn 

Boonsai, HAPPEN Project Manager, guest speakers include: 

        –  Mr.Apiwat Kunarak, REO01 Director 

        –  Pra Sangkhom Thanapanyo, Wat Doi Huay Som Temple 

        –  Mr.Kanoksak Duangkeawruen, Mayor of Mae-Ta Subdistrict   

           Administrative Organization 

       –   Dr.Wasan Jompakdee, Chiang Mai University

12.00-01.00 pm Lunch (provided)

01.00-03.30 pm HAPPEN Project 1 network seminar on “Holistic Approach for Local 

Environmental Management” facilitated by Kunakorn Boonsai,  HAPPEN Project Manager with 3 leading communities as guest speakers including: 

     – No Fishing Zone Project for River Conservation of Ban Ta-Toom 

Yang Pratart Community by The Kuang River Natural Resource and 

Environment Conservation Network 

     – Community Garbage Management Network by The Community 

Health Network Development for Better Living Project, Upper North 

Region, under Don Keaw Sub-district Administrative Organization  

     – Community Forest Management Work by The Natural Resource and 

Environment Conservation Club of Ban Hmong Mae0Sa-Mai
