Cold Pills Turning to Ice, says Police

March 30, 2012

CityNews – 1 million pills of pseudoephedrine were found stashed in bushes on the Sankampeang-Mae On Road at approximately noon on March 28th.

Chumnan Ruadrew, the Region 5 police commander and Wichai Chaimongkol the head of the Narcotics Control Board of Region 5, found the hidden stash that consisted of 15 bags packed with pills all containing pseudoephedrine. Police commander Chumnan told the press that he assumed the pills would have been used to produce amphetamines.

One pill of pseudoephedrine can be used to make up to three pills of amphetamine, say police, and pseudoephedrine is an active ingredient in the powerful amphetamine called Crystal Meth, or Ice. Lately hospitals in Kalasin, Udonthani and Chiang Mai have been seeing their stocks of cold medicine depleting. In Chiang Mai, Hod District, 50,000 pills recently went missing and in Doi Lor District 90,000 pills vanished. Pharmacists working in the hospitals have already been investigated by the DSI (Department of Special Investigations) and work is still being done.
