In the past, Chiang Mai has hosted the Southeast Asian Games, the ASEAN University Games, the World Weightlifting Championship and the World Sumo Championship. Chiang Mai Football Club plays in the National Thai League One and the city has hosted golf events graced by top international payers. Every year the town also hosts the Chiang Mai International Cricket Sixes, so there is plenty for sports fans to enjoy.
