April 24, 2012

CityNews – More than 100 residents from around 1,500 homes situated on Moo 9 Baanhuairai village, Kilek, in the Maetaeng District of Chiang Mai, headed by head of village Sawaeng Saisri, protested on April 21st about the terrible smell coming from an asphalt factory.

The large group travelled to Chiang Mai Provincial Office to urge the governor of Chiang Mai, M.L. Panadda Diskul, to do something about the asphalt factory from which they say such a strong smell is being emitted that it is affecting the health of residents living in the area.

Panadda accepted a letter of protest from the head of the village and has promised to find solutions to the problem.

On the 27th of March, residents complained about the factory while it was still under construction. The complaints were considered though the construction of the factory was finished. So once more the residents have filed a complaint, urging the governor of Chiang Mai to revoke the license of the asphalt factory. Residents said that if no progress is being made regarding the complaint, within seven days, they will protest again.
