One Man Dead and a Woman Seriously Injured in Doi Suthep Crash

CityNews – A young man died and his passenger, a young woman was seriously injured on June 4th after riding up to Doi Suthep temple for the Visakha Bucha ceremony.

On 4th June, at approximately 6.20 a.m. Phuping Rajanivet police received a call to say that a red car (songtaew) had hit a motorcycle at a Doi Suthep – Pui checkpoint. The police discovered a red car that had crashed into an embankment and a wrecked Honda Dream motorcycle.

Supachai Kobdej (19), the male motorcycle rider and his passenger Ankana Toonkaew (18), were found on the road in critical condition. The two were sent to hospital were Supachai later died. Ankana remains in hospital.

The red car passengers were not hurt police said, neither was the driver Todsapon Kanittanon, who had picked up picked the passengers up at Doi Suthep after the ceremony was held there. Whilst driving down with a full load of passengers Todsapon told police that he couldn’t stop when he saw a bike in his lane.
