National German Language Olympiad

June 10 - June 14

This year, Goethe-Institut Thailand will be hosting the National German Language Olympiad! The Olympiad is a programme coordinated by the Goethe-Institut to foster the relationship among educational institutions with an interest in German culture.

Munich-based music group EINSHOCH6 will be taking part in the Olympiad to play concerts for participants, friends, and family after an exhausting day of competition. Having played more than 20 tours around the world, they are key ambassadors of the German language, providing easy and exciting ways to interact with the language. They will tour the North and South of Thailand by performing a total of 5 concerts over 10 days. Their tour is set up to go along with the preliminary rounds of the National Olympiad (NDO) taking place across the country. They will be playing in Chiang Mai at Watthanothai Phayap School on June 14, starting at 1:30 pm. The event is open to the public with free admission.

There will also be a German themed yard sale ahead of the Opening Concert on June 10 starting at 5 pm on the green grounds of the Goethe-Institut in Bangkok. While treasure hunting for some cheap goods, individuals can enjoy some delicious German food like Leberkäs im Wecken or say “Prost!” (German term for “Cheers”) over a relaxing sundowner. It is a family-friendly event which will kick off 10 days of German culture around Thailand.

These events will offer young Thais a unique opportunity to engage with a school subject in entertaining ways. Through beatboxing, singing and dancing, they will be able to discover that learning can also happen outside the classroom. At the Award Show, several lucky students will be selected to travel to Bogor, Indonesia and join the international community of German-speakers during the Asia Pacific German Language Olympiad 2019.

Goethe-Institut Thailand hopes to promote and encourage cultural collaboration between Thailand, Germany and Europe by making contributions to festivals and organizing cultural events, exhibitions, productions and artist exchange in the fields of film, dance, music, theatre, and literature. Invite your friends and family to the concert for a fun time and enjoy some good music!
