A new art prize runs this December, launched with the aim of supporting young Thai visual artists. The winner will receive an all-expenses paid, three-week art residency at the NG Art Creative Residency in Provence, France in May 2020. The prize offers the chance to explore artistic development in a uniquely inspiring environment. The residency is run by Nicky Ginsberg, a renowned curator, gallery owner, entrepreneur and artistic visionary. Nicky has nurtured the careers of some of Australia’s most influential contemporary artists and exhibited their work nationally and globally. The winner will also receive mentorship, engagement with other artists, patrons, gallerists, international curators, art historians, academics, and an introduction to French culture. The winner’s work will be introduced to the international stage, including via its showcasing in a major international exhibition. The competition is being run by Spice Garden, an innovative new lifestyle quarter which opened this month in Chiang Mai’s old town. The prize is the idea of Spice Garden’s developer, Dr. Stanley Quek, a committed philanthropist and artistic patron. The initiative is set to become the first of many such cultural programs from the new development. The competition is open to any young Thai national. Submissions will be accepted until the end of December, with judging taking place throughout January. During the judging period, selected artworks will be displayed at Spice Garden. Applications will be available at the Nai Soi Festival on December 7th at Spice Garden
