Shangri-la, Chaing Mai presents new Lanna cultural center to Wat Lan Tong School and their students

Chiang Mai, 14 November 2019 – Shangri-La Hotel, Chiang Mai sent a team led by the hotel’s social and environmental responsibility project committee, along with managers, staff and friends, to Wat Lan Tong School to present the new local Lanna Cultural Center along with a new restroom to the school in a presentation ceremony held on 14 November 2019.

The hotel funded the projects with a budget of THB 760,242. At the ceremony were Director of Chiang Mai Primary Educational Service Area Office 1 Dr. Rattanapoom Nosu, Wat Lan Tong School Director Ms. Pakaratha Keawja, the school’s teachers, the students and their parents, as well as the village council, who were delegated to receive the new facilities. The warm atmosphere was made more festive by the children’s universal expressions of happiness.

Wat Lan Tong School is located in Village 3 of Tambon Huai Tsai in the San Kamphaeng district of Chiang Mai. It provides basic education for students from eight nearby villages. The student population from the first to ninth grades now totals 157, all of whom come from impoverished families and, thus, are compelled to study at the temple school, where they receive basic education appropriate for their age.

This year’s project to build the new local Lanna Cultural Center as a continuation of efforts from 2017. The hotel built the school’s new classroom and restroom to promote and develop skills in handicrafts and traditional arts for students and help them with a space for showing their creativity and inherit the beautiful Thai culture, In the meantime, the new building and restroom will provide the students a good environment in which to study.
