FIA Asia Pacific Congress 2025 held in Chiang Mai to promote road safety and sustainability in motorsport
The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), in collaboration with the Royal Automobile Association of Thailand under Royal Patronage (RAAT), is hosting the FIA Asia Pacific Congress 2025 in Chiang Mai from 8–10 October 2025 at the InterContinental Chiang Mai The Mae Ping.
The regional congress brings together delegates from 25 countries across the Asia-Pacific region, including FIA executives, leaders from motorsport and transport organizations, government agencies, private sector representatives, and international media.
Key topics of discussion include the development of regional motorsport infrastructure, training of young drivers and professionals, and the promotion of global safety standards in motorsport. The congress also highlights the transition towards electric mobility, sustainable urban design and transportation systems, and the use of digital technology to enhance road safety.
The event was officially opened by Mr. Mohammed Ben Sulayem, President of the FIA, and Mr. Prutirat Ratanakul Serireongrit, President of the Royal Automobile Association of Thailand under Royal Patronage.
Mr. Prutirat noted that the FIA’s decision to host this congress in Thailand reflects the country’s growing role in motorsport and road safety development within the region. He emphasized that the event offers a valuable opportunity for participating countries to exchange knowledge and best practices.
“Motorsport is not just about speed,” Mr. Prutirat said. “It is also a driving force behind safety innovation — from helmets and fire-resistant suits to seatbelts — all of which originated from racing.” He also announced that RAAT will open new membership registrations starting 1 January 2026, with the association currently having over 5,000 members.
FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem added that the congress aims to advance discussions on safety, sustainability, and environmental responsibility in motorsport. He highlighted the increasing adoption of clean energy in racing, which helps reduce emissions and pollution throughout the entire motorsport ecosystem — from production to performance.
The FIA Asia Pacific Congress 2025 underscores FIA’s global commitment to ensuring a unified standard of safety, innovation, and sustainability across all forms of motorsport.
