26 Years of the RICD Wheelchair Project Enhancing Lives Nationwide
Chiang Mai – The RICD Wheelchair Project, led by the Rajanakarin Institute for Child Development under the Department of Mental Health, celebrates 26 years of providing royal-granted assistive devices to persons with disabilities across Thailand, improving quality of life and mental well-being.
Founded in 2000, the project addresses the shortage of specialized mobility equipment for individuals with complex disabilities, in collaboration with the Rajanakarin Child Development Foundation under Royal Patronage. It operates under the royal patronage of Princess Galyani Vadhana and Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.
With support from international partners such as Free Wheelchair Mission and Hope Haven International, along with ICC International Public Company Limited, the project delivers high-quality, customized devices free of charge nationwide.
To date, 49,442 people have received assistive devices. Outcomes show 96% improved daily living, 83% better mental health, and expanded access to education and employment.
