Nomad Future’s Lab Exhibition: An exhibition showcasing research prototypes and urban development concepts, as well as their connection to cultural heritage and creative crafts (supported by the Regional Development Fund Management Unit: RDMU).
AI Hackathon: An event for inventing and creating AI innovations to solve real-world community problems in Chiang Mai (sponsored by Claude AI).
Solopreneur Show & Tell & Pitch Day: A space for sharing success stories and business development at Cult Caffeine, Charoen Mueang Road (Sponsored by the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau: TCEB).

Chiang Mai is poised to become a new world-class destination! A new project is being launched…
“Cosmo Local CNX 2026” and the Midel model “Nomad Friendly District” invite local people and the global community to create value for sustainable cities.

Chiang Mai province is preparing to elevate itself to become a world-class learning and creative city through the “Cosmo Local CNX 2026” project. This month-long pop-up village project, running throughout September 2026, integrates civil society, government, the private sector, and international networks to explore and experiment with urban development concepts that provide spaces for locals and nomads from around the world to live, learn, exchange, and collaboratively create new things in a meaningful way.
The project, supported by the Nomad Friendly District (NFD) development working group, was selected by the provincial level as a strategic testing ground (sandbox) to study the integration of infrastructure, cultural activities, creative heritage, and the development of local entrepreneurs to thrive alongside the global talent trend.
From “Nomad Destination” to “Nomad Friendly District” (NFD)
The Cosmo Local CNX and NFD projects don’t view Chiang Mai as just a tourist destination, but ask the crucial question: “How can we transform a city where people come to live into a city where people want to participate and create positive change together?”
The initiative is driven by the integration of four main working groups: Regulations and Immigration (driven by the Chiang Mai Provincial Immigration Office), Infrastructure and Area Preparedness (in collaboration with the Chiang Mai City Municipality), Activities and Culture (Chiang Mai Provincial Cultural Office), and Public Relations (Tourism Authority of Thailand, Chiang Mai Office). Previously, these working groups have promoted activities that encourage nomads in Chiang Mai to participate, such as involvement in charitable activities at the monthly San Pa Khoi Street Market, as well as exchange programs.

NOMAD FRIENDLY DISTRICT
Various cultural exchanges between nomads, foreigners, and the San Pa Khoi-Wat Ket community include jointly organizing the Baltic-style Mid Summer Festival 2026, conducting Thai dance classes with local youth, and participating in the water-pouring procession during the Songkran festival, among others.
Cosmo Local CNX will be a destination for nomads from around the world who will travel to Chiang Mai every September. It is estimated that this year, the first event, will attract approximately 300 participants from around the globe, including representatives from international organizations from countries such as Japan, Malaysia, Korea, Vietnam, and the Philippines, during the Main Week.
Four key activities driving the future of Chiang Mai.
Throughout September 2026, the project will be driven through four main activities that reflect the dimensions of comprehensive urban development, namely:
1. AI for Chiang Mai: This area is used to test artificial intelligence technology, solve problems, and create innovations to meet the needs of urban, local, and business contexts.
2. Food That Nourishes Us: Exploring food culture, sustainable agricultural systems, and local wisdom through a network of farmers, chefs, and food system advocates in Chiang Mai.
3. Solopreneur: A space for independent entrepreneurs and creators to build sustainable businesses through sharing experiences and networking.
4. Nomad Future’s Lab: A policy research and pilot project to design a Nomad Friendly District Blueprint that will be used as a model for urban development, in collaboration with Thai and international academics, government agencies, and communities.
