Official Launch of “EV Greenbus” – The First Electric Bus in Northern Thailand
And “Fair Super Charge” Electric Charging Station: Driving Clean Transportation Towards a Sustainable Future
For over 60 years, Greenbus has connected the journeys of people in Northern Thailand through its oil-powered bus system. However, the world today has changed significantly, with all sectors increasingly focused on environmental concerns and air quality, especially in Chiang Mai, which has long faced pollution challenges. As a result, Greenbus believes that good travel must not only be convenient, safe, and timely but also “respect the environment” and “return clean air to the community.” Therefore, the company has set a clear and tangible direction for sustainable operations, aiming to drive a more environmentally friendly transportation system.
EV Greenbus: A Major Step Towards Clean Transportation in Northern Thailand
Today marks a new milestone for Greenbus with the launch of 12 electric commercial buses, the “EV Greenbus,” the first of its kind in the northern region. This initiative is backed by Chiang Mai Transport Development Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Green Capital Co., Ltd., with an investment of nearly 100 million baht. This investment reflects our long-term commitment to transitioning the transport system to truly clean energy. In the first phase, the service will operate on key routes including Chiang Mai–Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai–Phayao, aiming to enhance travel quality, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, lower carbon dioxide emissions, and promote a clean and sustainable public transport system.
The 12 electric buses operating on the Chiang Mai–Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai–Phayao routes will collectively cover over 3 million kilometers per year, helping to reduce diesel consumption by approximately 1 million liters annually. The shift to electric power will result in a reduction of around 960 tons of carbon dioxide per year, equivalent to an average carbon reduction of 56.7 kilograms per trip (181 kilometers per trip), which is comparable to planting over 96,000 trees annually. Every baht we invest represents a step toward reducing carbon dioxide emissions and alleviating the long-standing PM 2.5 problem affecting residents in Northern Thailand. We hope that this initiative will inspire sustainable change and serve as a model for a green transportation system that genuinely grows alongside the community, under the ESG (Environment, Social, and Governance) concept, which emphasizes environmental care, social responsibility, and transparent management.
Our transition from oil-powered buses to electric buses not only elevates the quality of travel, providing passengers with a comfortable, modern, and safe experience, but also lays a new foundation for public transportation in Northern Thailand. This change will reduce air pollution, increase quietness, and create a sustainable environment for the community. Additionally, we would like everyone to notice our attention to detail: the energy stripe on the Greenbus logo has changed from red, representing oil energy, to blue, representing the energy used by the EV Greenbus, reflecting our genuine entry into the new era of electric power.
Fair Super Charge: Clean Energy Infrastructure for the Future
In parallel, Fair Fair, a subsidiary of Green Capital Co., Ltd., has invested in the construction of the “Fair Super Charge” clean energy charging station, equipped with six fast-charging outlets capable of delivering up to 720 kWh. This infrastructure lays the groundwork for clean energy to support the growth of electric vehicles and green transportation systems in Chiang Mai. It accommodates the burgeoning electric vehicle market, not only for the EV Greenbus but also for general EV users, allowing for quick, convenient, and safe charging.
Future Investments: Expanding Green Travel Connectivity Across the Region
The two projects, “EV Greenbus” and “Fair Super Charge,” represent an investment of over 100 million baht. The company remains committed to enhancing green transportation routes further in the future, planning to expand the fleet of electric buses and charging stations to key provinces in Northern Thailand, such as Chiang Rai and other central tourist areas. This infrastructure will support the public’s travel needs as well as the growth of electric vehicles in the future. This investment will help create a comprehensive green travel network, linking major and minor cities while supporting economic, tourism, and environmental development simultaneously.
“Greenpark Chiang Rai” – A Community Mall for Sustainable Economic Growth in Chiang Rai
Under the management of Kamphorn Development Co., Ltd., a subsidiary, this project is designed to blend nature, local charm, and modernity, inspired by the homes of hill tribes, enhanced with green spaces and relaxation areas to serve as a central hub for families, communities, and tourists. It will also provide space for local entrepreneurs to grow alongside leading national brands under the concept of a “sustainable community mall” that combines convenience and environmental care. The first phase is set to open in January 2026, with full operations expected by the fourth quarter of 2026.
We believe that this initiative will lay a crucial foundation for clean transportation in Northern Thailand, helping to reduce pollution, lower carbon emissions, and create a more livable city for everyone. Today, the EV Greenbus is not just a “transport service” but a journey towards a sustainable future: “A New Journey Toward Sustainability.”
