Japanese Government Providing Emergency Rescue Vehicles
July 10
The Japanese government is supporting the project to procure emergency rescue vehicles for the Khilek Subdistrict Municipality, Mae Rim District, Chiang Mai Province.
The Japanese government has approved support for the provision of emergency rescue vehicles to the Khilek Subdistrict Municipality, Mae Rim District, Chiang Mai Province, through the Kusuno-ne Project, a basic economic cooperation program. A signing ceremony for the agreement was held on July 10, 2026, at the Consulate General of Japan in Chiang Mai, between Mr. Harada Masaru, Consul-General of Japan, and Mr. Kiattisak Mala, Mayor of Khilek Subdistrict Municipality.
Khilek Subdistrict Municipality is located approximately 30 kilometers north of Chiang Mai city and has a population of about 7,500 people. The expansion of the university in the area in recent years has led to a rapid increase in the population. Meanwhile, the municipality’s emergency medical services team, responsible for transporting emergency patients in the area, currently operates only one rescue vehicle, which has been in use for over 13 years. As a result, the equipment and the vehicle itself are severely dilapidated and require frequent maintenance. Furthermore, the vehicle is nearing the end of its service life according to Thai government certification standards. At that point, it will be decommissioned from the emergency medical command system, making it difficult to respond to emergencies promptly. Therefore, acquiring a new rescue vehicle is an urgent necessity.
Given this situation, the Japanese government considered providing support to local municipalities.
