Opening of the Ganesh Chaturthi Festival at Old Chiangmai Cultural Center. Guests of honour included the Deputy Governor of Chiang Mai; Vorayan Bunarat, Indian Consul to Chiang Mai; Krishna Chaitanya, and the Mayor of Chiang Mai; Assanee Buranupak.
The Ganesh Chaturthi, also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi, or Vinayaka Chaviti is a Hindu festival commemorating the birth of the Hindu god Ganesha.
The festival will last from 31 August 2022 until 9 September 2022 at the Old Chiangmai Cultural Centre located on Wualai Road. Daily until 8 September there will be: 10am -11.30am Yoga workshop 3pm -10pm Vegan Food and Product booths.6pm – 7pm Fire Ceremony (master of ceremony will be different in each night) 7pm – 10pm Music and performances: Ganesh Puja in ancient wisdom with frankincense, flowers, fire, laddu, modak by Brahman, Brahmani, Swami and or Swamini. Celebrating the festive mood by singing or playing religious songs, dancing to drum beats in Lanna, ancient and multi-national styles to heal body, mind and soul with deep respect to Lord Ganesha. The festival culminates on 9 September 10am – 3pm Parade of bidding farewell to Ganesha will starting from Old Chiangmai Cultural Center and passing Chiang Mai Gate, Thapae Gate, Chang Moi Road, Varoros Market, Flowers Market, Navarat Bridge and stop at SSS Public Park in front of First Church of Chiang Mai (Charoen Rat Road). Ceremony will be end on the pier of Ping River by immersing clay idol of Lord Ganesha in the river to dissolve it.
Other highlights include: September 2 Traditional Indian Music Concert by Nilimesh Chakraborty & Arnab Bhattacharya – 7.30pm until 8.30pm – They are among the top instrumentalists (#Tabla and #Sarod) from India. Together they have performed more than 2500 concerts including more than three hundred abroad in various parts of the world. Both were conferred national award by India’s President even before they had completed their high school . They have, both individual and together, a number of albums to their credit. /// September 3 Jazz concert at from 8pm – 10pm featuring the Chiang Mai Street Jazz band and Jatayu band
