A fabulous lunch at U Hotel Chiang Mai on Rachadamnoen Road, where Lanna tradition meets contemporary Thai cooking. The menu celebrates the full gamut of Northern Thai flavours, using excellent ingredients sourced from the mountains and farms surrounding Chiang Mai.
The flavours run deep and bold, yet the food remains wonderfully accessible for international diners. And portions are generous — very generous — making this a place where you can properly settle in and eat.
Recommended dishes include deep fried seabass with a very umami fish sauce, red duck curry, traditional grilled chicken and a great stir fried crispy pork with garlic and chilli. We also loved the Mango Lovers set, which comes with all the classics plus mango ice cream and mango spring rolls.
The setting is lovely, right on one of Chiang Mai’s main roads, making it equally suited to a quick and satisfying lunch or a relaxed, quiet dinner. And on a weekend, why not grab a table by the roadside, order a beer and simply watch Chiang Mai roll by?
