Chiang Mai, Thailand – Anantara Chiang Mai Resort hosted “River of Life: Protecting the Ping” in celebration of World Water Day on 22 March 2026 at the resort’s riverside pier. The event was presided over by Mr. Rattapol Naradisorn, Governor of Chiang Mai, and attended by government officials, members of the media, and resort associates.
The initiative aimed to raise awareness around the protection, restoration and conservation of the Ping River, a vital waterway that sustains the livelihoods, culture and heritage of Chiang Mai. Participants took part in a river clean-up activity aboard the resort’s three JAO Ping River Cruise boats, helping to reduce environmental impact while promoting long-term awareness of water sustainability.
“The Ping River is at the heart of Chiang Mai, connecting people, culture and ways of life. Today’s initiative reflects the power of collaboration across all sectors in protecting our natural resources for a sustainable future,” said Mr. Rattapol Naradisorn, Governor of Chiang Mai.
Ms. Tudsaporn Jaiboonchuen, General Manager of Anantara Chiang Mai Resort, added, “At Anantara Chiang Mai, we are committed to operating responsibly with a strong focus on environmental and social sustainability. This initiative reflects our dedication to responsible tourism—one that protects natural resources while creating meaningful value for the local community.”

Observed annually on 22 March, World Water Day was established by the United Nations to highlight the importance of freshwater and advocate for the sustainable management of water resources. Thailand continues to support this global initiative through multi-sector collaboration and ongoing conservation efforts.

The resort’s commitment to sustainability is further recognised through its Green Growth 2050 Platinum Certification, the highest level of accreditation within the programme. Awarded to properties achieving over 90% compliance across environmental, social and cultural criteria, the certification reflects a comprehensive and systematic approach to sustainability, including resource conservation, waste reduction, sustainable design and community engagement.

Through initiatives such as “River of Life: Protecting the Ping,” Anantara Chiang Mai Resort continues to champion sustainable tourism while preserving the natural and cultural heritage of Chiang Mai for future generations.
