A Brave Step Forward: Documentary Celebrates Three Generations of Thai Female Rock Climbers
Chiang Mai hosts the premiere of an inspiring documentary highlighting women’s courage, determination and the growing potential of rock climbing tourism in Northern Thailand.
On 25 October 2026, the Progression Department of Chiang Mai Rock Climbing Adventures Co., Ltd., in collaboration with the Thailand Climbing Development Association (TCDA), hosted the Chiang Mai premiere of A Brave Step Forward (ก้าวที่กล้า) at SF Cinema, MAYA Lifestyle Shopping Center.
The event was officially opened by Ittirat Sinarak, Director of the Chiang Mai Provincial Office of Tourism and Sports.
The 40-minute documentary follows three Thai female rock climbers from three different generations as they take on challenging climbing routes in Lampang province. Through their shared journey, the film explores courage, determination, female empowerment and the importance of inspiring younger generations to pursue their passions.
Beyond celebrating the achievements of women in sport, A Brave Step Forward also highlights the potential of rock climbing as a driver of sustainable sports tourism in Northern Thailand.
The Chiang Mai premiere followed the film’s screening in Lampang on 24 October 2026, strengthening connections between the two provinces and showcasing their growing appeal as rock climbing destinations.
Chiang Mai has long been recognised internationally for its climbing opportunities, while Lampang is emerging as another promising destination with new routes and opportunities for adventure tourism.
Joshua Morris, representing the organisers, expressed his hope that the documentary would encourage Thai women and young people to step beyond their comfort zones, pursue what they love and approach climbing with the knowledge and safety awareness it requires.
The event also featured a screening of My Name is Loong Nan (ลุงชื่อลุงนัน), followed by the main documentary and a question-and-answer session.
Through powerful personal stories and the spectacular natural landscapes of Northern Thailand, A Brave Step Forward offers more than a sporting documentary. It celebrates the courage to take the first step, the strength of women across generations and the potential of adventure sports to inspire communities while supporting sustainable tourism.
