The new programme which will pay 2 baht for a kilogramme of waste, which was announced last week, has been launched.

The hotline for the programme, 053-112808, has been inundated with phone calls from the public expressing interest in this scheme. So far 34 villages now have the infrastructure to run this programme, and more will be added.

This scheme will continue until the 30th April and authorities say that they will slowly expand the scheme to outlying districts so that there is no cost of transport for those wishing to participate.

Authorities say that they will only accept dried leaves, branches and green waste.

The aim of this project is to help encourage people to be more environmentally aware, while able to earn extra income, helping to reduce the amount of tinder which can potentially catch fire and help reduce the levels of PM 2.5.
